Dominos Pizza Visit

Recently 12 Beavers met with Hayley, the manager of Dominos, and Dan one of the staff. Once the beavers had been kitted up with hats and aprons and we had done a mass hand wash, it was time to flip our dough. We learnt the secret of creating the perfect crust. Not easy to describe here, but I am happy to give a personal demo on request, and it does work, I have tried it at home too! Then we topped our pizzas with tomato sauce. Next job was to input our favourite toppings into their computer system. Finally, we
got to step up to the pass and ‘top’ our pizzas…. Ham, pepperoni and pineapple were popular choices. After that Bison played a memory game, ‘I went to Dominos and on my pizza I had…’
Pizzas were distributed and the boys either took them home or ate them on the spot! Thanks to Dominos for their warm welcome for those two weeks.

Capt James Ketchell is back home!

In June 2013 Hampshire Scouts Ambassador and adventurer James Ketchell embarked on his latest challenge: an epic 18,000 mile-long cycle ride through 20 countries, including India and Australia, to raise awareness of Scouting and funds for charity ELIFAR.

Since overcoming a serious motorcycle accident injury in 2007, Basingstoke born James, 31, has conquered some formidable physical challenges.  His current adventure is now over, and he is the first man to have rowed the Atlantic, climbed Everest and cycled around the world.

'The top bit of Scout wisdom that I take on my adventures is always having determination to get the job done.'

Well done James and welcome home!

Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Scout 'Archbishop Desmond Tutu' lauds Messengers of Peace

South African social rights activist, anti apartheid hero and Nobel Peace Prize (1984) laureate Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has been a great supporter of Scouting throughout his life. On the 26th January he received representatives of World Scouting and the World Scout Foundation to be informed about the Messengers of Peace Initiative.
During what can be described as an inspiring meeting and one full of laughter, the Archbishop was briefed in full detail about World Scouting's Flagship initiative and was stunned by what had been achieved in 2 years time.

As an avid Scout, the Archbishop was very excited to learn about Messengers of Peace and recognised its immense potential for the over 40 million Scouts all around the world. He was impressed by the multiplying effect on the youth of the world who have been (and will be) touched by this Initiative.
After sharing some amazing stories from his time in Scouting he was more then delighted when he received the Messengers of Peace scarf - which he did not take off for the entire day!

Author of several books, 82 year old Desmond Tutu has also received several other awards, notably the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism (1986), the Pacem in Terris Award (1987), the Sydney Peace Prize (1999), the Gandhi Peace Prize (2007) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2009).
